At Spry, we believe in doing good work – not just by serving our customers, but by serving our local communities as well working hand-in-hand to make a positive impact. On April 9th, Spry volunteered to prepare and serve a “Family Dinner” meal at The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Children’s Inn at NIH is a residential “Place Like Home’’ for families with children participating in leading-edge research studies at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH Clinical Center is the nation’s premier biomedical research hospital, providing an opportunity for our residents to be partners in advancing medical discoveries and improving the health of people all over the world. While the NIH takes care of the child’s medical needs, The Inn tends to the child’s heart, soul and spirit.
The Children’s Inn at NIH is a place for families that are undergoing serious medical treatment and it helps provide a much-needed hospitality house for children and their families during their stay at NIH. Since opening in 1990, nearly 12,000 children have come from all 50 states and 86 countries to stay together with their families–for free–in The Inn’s supportive environment. At the Inn, they understand the important role the entire family plays during a child’s illness, and that’s why its mission is to meet the needs of families, reduce the burden of medical treatment and facilitate healing through therapeutic, educational and recreational programming. The “Family Dinners” allow the families to relax, while alleviating the worries of transportation, grocery shopping and the hassle of preparing a meal after a long day of traveling. This is also an opportunity for them to meet and interact with other families who are also experiencing similar situations.
Spry was very grateful for the opportunity to support our friends at The Children’s Inn again with a family dinner meal.
